There’s no brand that’s as strongly associated with free samples as Costco. People have been known to tour the sample tables at Costco stores for a free lunch, acquired piecemeal. There are even personal-finance and food bloggers who’ve encouraged the practice.
I find the last sentence from the excerpt above particularly interesting. This is content marketing at its best. That is, getting people–i.e. bloggers, influencers, John or Jane Doe–to write about how great your brand is and then tell people about it. It’s one of the hardest things to do, but it delivers maximum value to your brand because of the impact it has on your online reputation (which leads to more sales).
